Genetic disorders of liver and intestines
Liver diseases are one of the most common health problems worldwide and often caused by alcohol, obesity or viral infections. Less commonly, liver dysfunction is genetic. In these cases, a specific therapy is often available.
The genetic disorders of the liver include
- Metabolic diseases
- Wilson's disease (copper storage disease)
- Hereditary hemochromatosis (iron storage disease)
- Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency
- Porphyria
- Cystic fibrosis
- Lysosomal storage diseases (e.g. Gaucher disease)
- Cholestasis syndromes
Neoplasias of the gastrointestinal tract may also be genetic, as well as recurrent pancreatitis.
